Tenant Shoots Suspected Burglar At Texas Extra Space
A self-storage burglar may be left with a limp for a while.
Last week, two tenants of an Extra Space Storage in southwest Houston arrived at their self-storage unit only to find a man rummaging through their belongings.
According to police reports, the suspected burglar, upon being discovered, reached into his pocket. This caused one of the tenants to pull out a gun and shoot the man in the leg. The man was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
At this time, the shooter is not facing any charges as authorities are considering it an act of self defense. Plus, this is Texas: In the Lone Star State, citizens can use deadly force to protect their property. Also in the tenant's favor is the belief that the burglar posed an "imminent threat," making a sudden move to reach into his pocket, perhaps for a firearm.
Investigators have not revealed if the burglar did in fact have a gun in his pocket, however.
