CSSA & SSA Work To Mitigate Risk Of Proposed Rent Control Bill SB709
The California Self Storage Association (CSSA) has notified members about a proposed law that poses a serious financial and operational risk to self-storage businesses.
Senate Bill 709 (SB709) was introduced by Senator Menjivar on February 21, 2025. It is a rent control bill directed toward California self-storage operators that would limit rental increases to no more than once every three months. It would also limit the amount of each rent increase.
"The CSSA is working in conjunction with the Self Storage Association and their state lobbyist regarding this serious matter," says Steve Mirabito, President of StoragePRO Management and CSSA Chairman, Legal & Legislative Committee. "We are currently working on a strategy to mitigate the risk this bill has on your business."
Mirabito asks that anyone with political relationships in the state legislature to please reach out to the CSSA:
