QuikStor Integrates StorageDefender Smart Units Into Management Platform

QuikStor has integrated StorageDefender's Smart Units technology into its self-storage management software, giving operators a way to automate tenant enrollment, manage subscriptions and generate recurring revenue through unit-level activity alerts.

Announced Nov. 2, the integration connects StorageDefender's monitoring technology and tenant subscriptions directly to the QuikStor platform. Operators can offer and manage Smart Units within their existing software, with enrollment and subscription changes handled automatically.

The integration responds to growing demand from self-storage operators seeking to connect Smart Unit technology with their property management systems. QuikStor, which has served the self-storage industry since 1987, is the latest platform to integrate with StorageDefender.

Smart Unit subscriptions generate an additional $12 to $20 in monthly revenue per enrolled unit, according to the companies. Operators can also access more detailed unit-level analytics through StorageDefender's Web Management Portal.

"We're always looking for ways to give our operators more from the software they already use," said Tony Gardner, vice president of strategic partnerships at QuikStor. "Smart Units add unit-level activity visibility and recurring revenue, and StorageDefender's experience pioneering this category made them a natural addition to our network."

"Our promise to operators has always been peace of mind that profits and to make it as easy as possible in doing so," said Mark (MJ) Somers, product manager at StorageDefender. "Operators across the country want Smart Units in the platforms they run, and this integration with QuikStor delivers that with the same simplicity Smart Units have always had."

StorageDefender introduced its Smart Units-as-a-service category in 2019. Its platform includes Smart Units, which provide tenant activity alerts; Smart Zones, designed to provide facility-wide intelligence; and the Web Management Portal for centralized operational visibility. The company said its system operates independently alongside existing facility technology and does not require a specific gate-access system.

StorageDefender also notes that its service is an automated notification platform, not a security or alarm system. It does not monitor alerts, contact emergency services or replace other security measures.
