Georgia Self-Storage Facility Ransacked & Robbed

Tenants at Mercer Self Storage are not happy. The facility, located on Mercer University Drive in Macon, Georgia, has been ransacked and robbed, according to Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Renters like Catina Williams say locks were cut and units were emptied without warning. “It’s just sad that somebody would go to this extreme to take something that someone else has worked for,” Williams said.

Williams says her last payment was automatically taken in March, but since then nothing has come out of her account.

“The first time I knew about the incident was in April,” she said.

Williams isn’t the only renter looking for answers. Others say their units were broken into last week. Even after replacing their locks, they returned to find them cut again and more items gone.

“I’m hurt and disappointed,” said Marsha Selby, who was renting two units while renovating her home.

Selby says she lost furniture, tools, and other items she had worked years to afford. “When I got through with my space, (I) move stuff in slowly, so all of that is gone. Every last bit of it is gone,” she said.

Renters say the inside of the storage office is empty. A paper notice posted on the door says the office is closed and lists a contact number but calls reportedly go straight to voicemail.

The silence from the company is what renters say makes it worse.

“I need answers. I need to see what the next step is and what will be done about the things that I’ve lost,” Williams said.

“People taking other people’s things - it’s only going to get worse,” another renter added.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says all reports are being investigated by its Criminal Investigations Division.
