Firefighters Battle Blaze At Colorado StorQuest [VIDEO]
A fire at an Arvada, Colo. StorQuest facility on Tuesday morning left 78 units within one building destroyed or damaged, and two firefighters with minor injuries.
Arvada Fire Protection District, with help from West Metro Fire and Fairmount Fire, responded to a call at the StorQuest facility, located near Interstate 70 and Wadsworth Boulevard around 6:15 am and discovered fire in the attic. Fighting the blaze from the inside proved futile due to the amount of smoke and flames, so the firefighters moved outside to conduct a "defensive" fight against the fire.
"We were met with heavy smoke and heavy fire conditions so there is extensive damage," said Matt Osier, a deputy chief with Arvada Fire, noting that within the impacted building there were 18 units on the first floor and 60 smaller units on the top floor for a total of 78. "I would say at this point, I would say it looks like most of them were affected, either by fire or effects of our attempts of extinguishment."
The fire took nearly two hours to contain. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
