U-Haul Offers Free Storage to Those Affected by Spokane Area Wildfire
U-Haul Co. has launched a disaster-relief initiative for residents displaced or impacted by the Upriver Fire in Spokane County, Washington, offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box portable container use at six company-owned facilities in the area.
The wildfire, burning east of Spokane, has scorched more than 200 acres and damaged or destroyed at least 15 homes, according to published reports. Containment was reported at 10% as of Thursday, while evacuation orders remain in effect for communities closest to the fire.
To support residents facing evacuation, property damage or temporary displacement, U-Haul is providing access to self-storage units and portable storage containers at no cost for one month. The offer applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is subject to availability at participating locations.
The U-Box program includes on-site storage at U-Haul facilities, with container delivery available for an additional fee.
The assistance highlights the role self-storage providers often play in disaster response efforts, offering residents secure locations to protect belongings during emergencies and recovery periods.
In addition to its disaster-relief storage program, U-Haul continues to support emergency-response efforts as an official American Red Cross Disaster Responder, providing resources and services to communities affected by natural disasters across North America.
The company also noted that customers who require storage beyond the complimentary 30-day period can take advantage of its 1-Year Price Lock program, available at more than 2,100 company-owned facilities throughout the United States and Canada. The program guarantees fixed storage rates for at least 12 months, helping customers avoid rental-rate increases during extended recovery and rebuilding efforts.
