Texas Self-Storage Facility Faces Scrutiny Over Security, Thefts

An Abilene, Texas storage facility is facing scrutiny after residents voiced concerns about break-ins and ongoing security problems. Neighbors say the 4 Star Self Storage property at 242 Green Street has repeatedly left its front gate open, despite it being designed to stay locked.

Christopher Jones, a local, noted that chatter about the facility’s security has been growing in the community. “Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about units being left open,” Jones said. “I’ve heard people mention things being taken — antiques, all kinds of stuff.”

A recent Facebook post heightened the concern, claiming that up to 30 storage units may have been broken into. The post, shared by Sondra Mata, included photos of units with their doors ajar and belongings strewn across the property.

Although the facility appears to have both a gated entry and security cameras, some residents are skeptical about how well those systems are working.

“I believe those cameras were only just installed,” Jones said. “There was a crew here about six weeks ago putting them up. But I doubt that’s going to stop anyone.”

Beyond the theft concerns, locals also reported signs of unauthorized camping near the storage site. “Almost every time I drive past, the gates are open,” Jones added. “And with places like Loving Care, Mockingbird, and Goodwill nearby, you see a lot of — well, homeless people.”

Local news KTexas reached out to 4 Star Self Storage regarding the reports, but calls to the facility went unanswered. At this time, no official statement has been issued, and it’s unclear whether law enforcement is looking into the matter.
