Multiple, Repeated Break-Ins Reported at Georgia Storage Facility
Tensions remain high at Mercer Self Storage in Macon, where renters say they’ve been left in the dark nearly two months after a string of break-ins left units ransacked and belongings missing. Now, the facility’s office itself has been vandalized, further escalating concerns.
When a local news station first spoke with tenant Katina Williams in April, her unit had just been emptied. Eight weeks later, she says she still hasn’t received answers—nor compensation. “The insurance company has denied the claim. I still have not heard or don't know who the [facility] owners are,” Williams said. “It’s completely and totally frustrating to go through something like this and have absolutely no resolve.”
Other renters at the facility have reported cut locks, stolen items, and a lack of communication from management. Williams says she lost personal documents, boutique merchandise, and event supplies—forcing her to replace everything to stay in business.
“The person that owned the business—are they just scot-free with no accountability?” she asked.

The Better Business Bureau urges renters to inquire about insurance coverage, as most policies protect the building, not the stored contents. Williams says she was never notified that her policy ended in March, only discovering the lapse after her claim was denied. She even provided a photo showing people allegedly removing items from units. “The owners should have at least reached out,” she said. “Let us know—‘if you don’t get your items out by this date, we’re no longer responsible.’”
Williams is now considering legal action in hopes of holding someone accountable.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, all reports related to the incidents at Mercer Self Storage are currently under investigation by its criminal investigations division.
