Freeport Self Storage Turns Into A Wrestling Arena For Charity

Freeport Self Storage recently turned its parking lot into a wrestling arena, welcoming approximately 300 people to its Freeport, N.Y., facility for a community fundraiser benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The family-owned facility closed for the day to host the free event, presented by Create A Pro Wrestling Academy. TNA Tag Team Champion Brian Myers met with fans before the matches, while attendees were treated to professional wrestling, food, ice cream, and other family-friendly activities.

The Freeport Fire Department's Ladder Company also took part, raising the American flag before the national anthem and opening bell.

Freeport Self Storage Managing Partner David Kampa said the event raised $2,600 that day, with fundraising continuing toward a $5,000 goal ahead of Sept. 11. The facility pledged to make a matching contribution. All proceeds benefit Tunnel to Towers, which provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders and military members, builds specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and supports programs addressing veteran homelessness.

Beyond the fundraising, the event brought hundreds of area residents onto the property and gave the independent operator another way to strengthen its ties to the surrounding community. StoragePug's Tommy Nguyen highlighted the event as an example of how smaller operators can compete by pursuing highly local efforts that larger companies may have difficulty replicating.

Freeport Self Storage has served the community since 1997. Its facility at 73 E. Merrick Road offers climate-controlled and drive-up storage as well as truck rentals.
