A New York City-based developer has finalized the purchase of the historic Pepperidge Farm headquarters in Norwalk, Conn. and intends to redevelop the site as a self-storage facility.

Campbell Soup Company announced in early 2023 that it would close the Pepperidge Farm headquarters and consolidate those roles at its main offices in Camden, New Jersey. Despite the relocation, Campbell’s continues to emphasize Pepperidge Farm’s Connecticut heritage on the brand’s website, citing its founding by Margaret Rudkin. Rudkin founded Pepperidge Farm in Fairfield, Conn., naming it after her family’s farm. It grew rapidly, and was acquired by Campbell Soup Company in 1961. Around that time, Campbell established 595 Westport Avenue as the brand’s corporate headquarters.

At the time of the closure announcement, the Norwalk facility employed approximately 170 people. According to city records, the property sold for $11 million. The transaction was carried out by TVG Partners through a limited liability company named 595 Westport LLC. The site includes nearly 120,000 square feet of building space situated on more than six acres.

As outlined in project documents filed with the city, TVG plans to retain around 25,000 square feet of office space facing Westport Avenue, directly across from Whole Foods Market. The remainder of the property is slated for a 600-unit self-storage facility.
