Manhattan Mini Storage Offers Storage to Displaced Survivors of East Harlem Building Explosion

In the wake of Wednesday’s massive gas explosion and collapse at two apartment buildings in East Harlem,  Manhattan Mini Storage is offering free storage at its  East Harlem location to any displaced residents for up to three months while they recover from the incident and secure new housing.

According to the latest reports, the explosion killed seven and wounded dozens of others, as well as destroying dozens of residential apartments, along with a church and a piano store. Residents of seven other buildings, including three businesses, were ordered to vacate because their power and gas remained off.

“All New Yorkers will feel for the victims and survivors of this tragedy,” said Stacy Stuart, an Executive Vice President at Edison Properties, the parent company of Manhattan Mini Storage. “But it hits us even closer to home, because our East 110th Street location is just a few blocks away, so these people are our neighbors. We’re going to do anything we can to do help them during this crisis.”

A gas leak triggered the explosion at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, collapsing 1644 and 1646 Park Avenue, two buildings near 116th Street. Mayor Bill de Blasio called the incident “a tragedy of the worst kind.” Firefighters are continuing to search for additional victims.

Manhattan Mini Storage is asking any residents displaced by the explosion to call the company at 212-STORAGE (212-786-7243), Option 1, if they are in need of storage. Their East Harlem facility is located at 401 East 110th Street.
