Fire Breaks Out at Prime Storage in New York
A fire broke out at Prime Storage on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, New York at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, shutting down the roadway in both directions for over two hours as firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire had spread through multiple units causing significant property damage and making the fire difficult to extinguish. Once the fire was under control, a backhoe was brought in to assist the firefighters in removing debris from the units.
“Today’s significant fire at the Prime Storage self-storage units highlights the incredible bravery and dedication of our Town of Wappinger first responders, including our volunteer firefighters from New Hackensack, Hughsonville, Chelsea, Village of Wappingers Falls, our Town ambulance and Highway Department, Code Enforcement, Dutchess County fire investigation teams and all agencies from across our region who assisted,” said Joseph Cavaccini, town supervisor. “Their swift and courageous actions ensured a more manageable situation in the face of adversity. This incident also underscores the critical need for ongoing vigilance and safety measures concerning what is stored in our community’s storage units. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we extend our deepest gratitude to all who responded with such professionalism and commitment.”
The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
