William Warren Group (WWG) Founder and Chief Executive Officer Bill Hobin has been named to the Self Storage Hall of Fame, recognizing more than three decades of leadership and contributions to the self-storage industry.
Hobin was formally inducted as a member of the Class of 2026 during the Self Storage Association Fall Conference & Trade Show at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10:15 a.m.
Established in 2005 by the Self Storage Association Foundation, the Hall of Fame recognizes self-storage pioneers, innovators and entrepreneurs for distinguished accomplishments, sustained industry contributions and service. Hobin’s selection recognizes a career spanning more than 30 years, with work encompassing development, operations, technology and sustainability.
Hobin began his career managing a single self-storage facility and went on to build William Warren Group into one of the nation’s largest privately owned self-storage organizations. Over his career, he has managed self-storage assets in more than 20 states.
Today, WWG operates more than 265 facilities across 16 states under the StorQuest Self Storage brand, with a portfolio valued at more than $3.5 billion.
“I am deeply honored to be inducted into the Self Storage Hall of Fame,” said Hobin. “This recognition reflects more than 30 years spent alongside remarkable partners, colleagues and friends who have helped shape both my career and this industry. I am grateful to the Self Storage Association for an honor I will always cherish.”
Hobin’s industry involvement extends beyond the growth of WWG. He was instrumental in founding the California Self Storage Association, which is now the largest state storage association in the nation, and served as its president from 2002 to 2006.
He also has been a longtime contributor, sponsor and supporter of the national Self Storage Association. Hobin currently serves as chair of the SSA Foundation Board of Governors, which has raised more than $4 million for scholarships benefiting self-storage employees and their children.
“Bill has spent three decades innovating and transforming the self storage business. He built a brand, a platform, and continues to push the standards of excellence in our industry to higher and higher levels,” said Gary Sugarman, Principal and Chief Operating Officer of William Warren Group and 2025 Chairman of the California Self Storage Association. “Anyone who has worked alongside Bill knows that this honor could not be more well deserved.”
Hobin also has focused on innovation in operating systems, remote facility management and brand development, while emphasizing mentorship and the exchange of ideas throughout the industry.
His philanthropic and environmental efforts include support for One Tree Planted, SeaTrees, Life Rolls On and other community organizations. The Hall of Fame recognition adds to Hobin’s more than three decades of involvement in the development and advancement of the self-storage industry.
