Woman Shoots Florida Self-Storage Manager

A Public Storage manager in Palm Bay, Florida was shot after discovering two women sleeping inside a storage unit and telling them they needed to leave, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on October 11 at the facility on Babcock Street, just north of Palm Bay Road.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the manager was making her rounds when she found the women inside a unit that one of them had recently rented. After being informed that sleeping in the unit was prohibited, one of the women allegedly fired two shots at the manager, striking her once. Despite being wounded, the manager managed to take cover and barricade herself while the women fled. Ivey said the gunshot wound was not life-threatening and that the manager was expected to survive.

The shooting prompted a large law enforcement response, with deputies and officers from Palm Bay and West Melbourne establishing a perimeter around the area. Investigators initially sought to identify which of the two women had fired the weapon. Detectives later identified Kandice Jo Pierce as the suspected shooter. Pierce, who was also wanted on an unrelated arson warrant, was arrested Saturday without incident by Palm Bay police outside a business on Palm Bay Road.

Authorities said they were working with the State Attorney's Office on an attempted first-degree murder charge related to the shooting. The news report also cites jail records listing charges of second-degree arson, shooting into a building, and first-degree premeditated murder, although the manager survived. Ivey thanked members of the community for assisting investigators and Palm Bay police for taking Pierce into custody safely. Source: CBS12
