South Korean Self-Storage Operator Launches Daily Rental Service

Second Syndrome, a South Korean proptech and self-storage company, has introduced a short-term rental service through its Mini Storage Darak brand, allowing customers to rent storage units for periods ranging from one to 15 days.

The service is available at 150 of the company’s 250 locations. Customers can use the Mini Storage Darak app to identify participating facilities by selecting the “short term” option, then choose a location, unit size and rental period before completing payment.

Daily rates range from 2,500 South Korean won (KRW) for a small unit to KRW 20,000 for a large unit. Customers also pay a KRW 30,000 deposit, which is automatically refunded when the rental period ends.

The app sends customers a reminder three days before the end of their rental period, prompting them to retrieve their belongings or extend their stay. Users can also compare the cost of a short-term rental with the company’s monthly rates.

The service operates through the company’s unmanned management system, allowing customers to manage facility access and rental periods through the app without on-site staff assistance.

“Through an unmanned operation system, customers can manage entry and the storage period via the app without separate staff support, enabling flexible storage-service operations on a daily basis,” the company said in a statement.

Founded in 2016, Second Syndrome operates 250 locations across South Korea. The company also offers Darak Members, an annual subscription program for longer-term customers that includes discounted monthly rental rates, vouchers for free packing and moving assistance, and complimentary moving boxes.
