Staff from Access Self Storage locations across the United Kingdom laced up their running shoes on March 6 for a 100-kilometer charity relay benefiting Cancer Research UK.
Roughly 30 employees from stores around the country took part in the challenge, which began and ended in London’s Hyde Park. The relay coincided with Self Storage Week 2026, an annual initiative highlighting the role of the self-storage industry while also supporting charitable causes.
Participants walked or jogged their assigned portions at their own pace, making the event accessible to staff of varying fitness levels. Collectively, the team covered the full 100 kilometers in support of cancer research.
Employees traveled from across the company’s UK network to participate, underscoring the collaborative culture within Access Self Storage. The relay format mirrored that spirit, with each runner contributing a leg of the journey toward the shared goal.
While Self Storage Week aims to spotlight the often-overlooked storage industry and its importance to individuals, families, and businesses, the fundraiser also highlighted the sector’s ability to give back to the communities it serves.
Jan-Albert Fourie, general manager of operations at Access Self Storage, said the effort reflects the company’s values. “Taking on 100 kilometers as a team is a big challenge, but it represents what we’re about at Access, supporting each other and working together to achieve something meaningful,” he said. “Cancer Research UK is a cause that resonates with many of us personally, and we’re proud that colleagues from all 57 stores could come together to make every kilometer count.”
Self Storage Week also recognizes the people who power the industry. The charity relay offered employees a chance to connect not only with one another, but also with their communities and a cause that affects millions.
